The Belgian Malinois is often known as a worker dog due to their intelligence, obedience and great ability to learn commands. This dog originated in Belgium as their name suggests. Starting in the late 1800s these dogs were developed by trainers and working competitors. They were used by Belgian cattlemen and sheepherders on farms. They quickly earned a place as service animals in the military and police force. That’s how they are best-known in modern society. Appearance

When you have a designer dog, their appearance is usually a mix between the two breeds that they’re composed of. The Belgian Malinois has a size range of 22 to 26 in and 40 to 80 lbs. Their size is dependent on the sex of the dog. Male and female Siberian Huskies should be between 20 and 24 in tall and they usually weigh between 35 and 60 pounds. Personality

Individually they do have some personality traits that are very popular among owners. The Belgian Malinois are protective, sharp and loyal. They’re not considered great for families with small children because they can have some aggression issues and be hyperactive. Life Expectancy and Health

Your Belgian Malinois and Husky mix will have a lifespan that’s in between both of their parrot breeds. The Belgian Malinois have an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years. Siberian Huskies can live between 12 and 15 years. Your mix should live to be at least 12 years old if not older.

Because it is a crossbreed your Belgian Malinois husky mix will share health issues that are common to their parent breeds. Siberian huskies have been recorded to have a few health issues commonly. Glaucoma, corneal ulcerations, early onset cataracts, Progressive retinal atrophy, sebaceous cyst, hernias, seizures, and hypothyroidism. The Belgian Malinois is considered to be a healthy breed, but they may experience hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, allergies, skin disorders, and cancer.

On a regular basis your Belgian Malinois and Husky mix needs to see the vet for tests. Test for heart function, eye checks, bones and joints, and overall physical examinations. Trainability

You’ll need a secure garden or yard to give them the space to play and run. Grooming

The Belgian Malinois and Siberian Husky hybrid is easy to maintain. They have a short coat that sheds moderately and it only needs to be brushed two times a week. During shedding seasons you need to brush it more often. Shedding seasons are usually around the times of the year when the weather begins to warm up. They begin shedding this forever because they need to cool themselves off.

This mix also doesn’t usually get that dog smell, so you don’t need to bathe them very often. You should only bathe these dogs when necessary like after they rolled around in mud or got dirty. While bathing isn’t a daily or weekly task they do need the row teeth cleaning on a regular basis. This should be done to prevent tooth loss and gum disease. Also make a habit of checking your dog’s ears for a wax and debris once a week so that you can protect them against ear infections. Overall they’re easy dogs to groom and you don’t have to do a lot to maintain their appearance.
